Daniel Martinez

Daniel Martinez, 89, of Amarillo died February 14, 2020.

Visitation will be from 3-8:00 p.m., Friday, February 21, 2020 at Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur St. Funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020 at New Life Outreach Ministries, 406 Pittsburg. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the church after interment. Arrangements are by Angel Funeral Home.

Daniel was born in Elk, TX on January 4, 1931 to Ignacio Martinez and Bacilia Luna. He was baptized at The Church of St. Anthony’s in Hereford on April 15, 1947 by Rev. James Silva. Daniel was a longtime resident of Amarillo, Dawn and Hereford Texas. He worked as a farmer/mechanic for most of his life. Daniel liked to spend his days outside farming and doing mechanical work. He was a great dancer in his younger days and enjoyed playing the guitar for family and friends. He loved to watch the children run and play and enjoyed watching WWE Wrestling and Old Westerns on TV. He loved playing pool and poker but his greatest joy was being surrounded by family and friends, having get-togethers, laughing and just enjoying life.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Josie Calaya of Hereford; second wife, Josephine Solis Elizalde of Amarillo; son, Joe “Baby” Martinez of Hereford; and stepdaughter, Rita Beltran of Amarillo; and many other relatives.

Daniel is survived by 4 children, Daniel Martinez, Jr. and wife Elva of Dallas, George Martinez and wife Irene of Hereford, Rudy Martinez of Hereford and daughter, Sylbia Martinez of  Hereford; 4 stepsons, Loyd Lamberson and wife Nita of Amarillo, Freddie Beltran and companion Barbara of San Antonio, Larry Beltran of Amarillo and Jimmy Elizalde of Amarillo; 25 or more grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; many great great-grandchildren; and countless friends and extended family.
