Dorothy Hadaway

Dorothy Hadaway, 91, of Amarillo passed away Sunday, August 8, 2021.

Viewing will be from 5-7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 13, 2021 at Angel Funeral Home Chapel of Angels, 2209 S. Arthur. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Angel Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born January 31, 1930 in Erie, PA to Georg and Frieda Andermann. In 1939, Dorothy and her parents moved back to Baucke, Germany to take over the family bakery. Shortly after, war broke out and they were forcefully evacuated from their home. Dorothy moved to the United States in August 1946 but her parents remained in Germany. In July of 1952, Dorothy made a trip back to Germany to visit her parents. While there, she met GI Sgt. Thomas Hadaway, a native Texan. They were married December 19, 1953 in Erie, PA then moved to Lubbock, TX where they began their lives together. Dorothy and Thomas had 3 beautiful daughters, Carol, Patty and Jackie.

Dorothy was a homemaker, and a loving mother. She loved cooking and baking for her family and friends. In 1976, Dorothy began her career in the food service industry at St. Anthony’s Hospital where she remained until retirement. She enjoyed camping in the mountains and shopping downtown. Dorothy was a soft-spoken woman and was sweet to everyone she met. She had a heart of pure gold and truly will be missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband, Thomas Hadaway; and daughter, Jackie Hadaway.

Dorothy is survived by daughters, Carol Ortiz and husband, Robert of Mesa, AZ and Patty Cordova and husband, Norman of Amarillo, TX; 4 grandchildren, Marcus Ortiz of Gilbert, AZ, Brandon Ortiz of Boston, MA, Danielle Criado of Amarillo, TX and Whitney Villarreal of Gilbert, AZ; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great-grandson.
