Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13 at Bethel Baptist Church, 209 Tennessee, Graham, TX with Rev. Dennis Bell officiating. Graveside services with Military honors will follow at Farmer Community Cemetery.
Garland Dean Wickham, 86, of Amarillo, formerly of Wichita Falls, died Monday, August 8, 2011 at Amarillo BSA Hospice. He was born August 23, 1924 in Holliday, Texas. Mr. Wickham was the son of the late Clarence and Vera Beekman Wickham. He attended schools in Loving and Graham, Texas. He was a World War II Army Veteran, serving in the Philippines with the Americal Division. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Bronze Arrowhead and the Philippine Liberation Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 3, 1945.
Mr. Wickham retired from the City of Wichita Falls and was later employed by the Wichita Falls Independent School District. He moved to Amarillo in 2005.
For many years, he was active in the Wichita Falls Boys Club football and YMCA baseball programs and umpired high school baseball. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking square dancing and RV’ing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Collins Wickham and Jay Fred Wickham and sister, Opal Wickham Quillin.
He is survived by his daughter, Dee Maness and husband, Wesley of Amarillo; son, Tommy Wickham and wife, Cindy of Lakeland, FL; daughter, Judy Patterson and husband, Robert of Houston; one sister, Vivian Hendrickson of Wichita Falls, TX; four brothers, Julian Wickham of Midland, TX Benny Wickham and wife, Maddie, of Cleburne, TX; Dwayne Wickham and wife, Marcia of Collinsville, TX; and Donny Wickham of Electra, TX; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the loving care shown to Mr. Wickham during his stay at the Amarillo BSA Hospice.
