We are saddened to share that Gary Lee Gidden died on April 13, 2025, at the age of 80.
Gary was born on June 8, 1944, in Canyon, Texas, to Bill and Myrtle Lee Golden Gidden. He grew up in Guymon, Oklahoma, where he graduated from high school. He was known for his quiet strength, generous heart, and deep love for his family.
He spent much of his career welding at JM Huber, working at the carbon black plant in Borger. Gary was not only a dedicated team member — he was also known for writing funny poems to mark the retirements of his coworkers, a tradition that brought laughter and lightness to many over the years.
Gary found happiness in simple pleasures — especially fishing, skiing, and spending time outdoors. He had a special love for Taylor Park, Colorado, where he and his family made many cherished memories. And, of course, he never turned down a cold Dr. Pepper.
He was a longtime member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and found meaning in his faith and community throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Jeanette Seymore and Janice Sledge; his brother, Felix Gidden; and his wife Hope’s sister, Gay.
Gary is survived by his wife, Hope, of sixty-two years; his son, Leslie “Les” Gidden, and wife Lauren of Camarillo, California; his nephew Johnathan Martinez and Johnathan’s sons, Juaquin and Jude; his nephew Tim Martinez and wife Nita, along with their children — Raven and her husband Derrick, and Raven’s brother Ethan and his wife Cassidy. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Joy Martinez, and her husband Jr., as well as his sister-in-law Gay's daughter, Carla, and her husband Dick. Gary is also survived by Carla's three sons, Nick, Taylor, Tony, and their families, along with many other beloved nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Gary will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the quiet ways he showed up for the people he loved.
