Gary Michael Wasson, 57, of Amarillo, passed away on February 18, 2025.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, 2/28/25 - 1:00 pm at Second Baptist Church, 419 N. Buchanan Street, Amarillo, TX.
Gary, or Michael as he was known by those closest to him, was born in Long Beach, California on February 7, 1968, to Gary H. and Virginia A. (Young) Wasson. His father was in the United States Military and the family moved often. Michael attended high school in Amarillo, and he was the salutatorian for the 1986 graduating class of River Road High School. While in school, Michael was a member of the Boys Scouts of America where he obtained the highest rank a young man could get, the rank of Eagle Scout.
Michael excelled at everything he did. No matter the task, he faced it head on and with little to no fear. But Michael had a softer side as well. He was a giving person. A truly genuine giver. He gave with his heart and no matter if he had it or not, if someone needed it, he would give it. Michael loved music and was one of the first kids on his block to have MTV. He was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs Fan, even when they were losing. Michael also loved to spend time in the casinos gambling, but especially hitting Spin on the slot machines.
Michael is survived by his sister, Kathy Johnson, niece, Christina, Uncles Dale Young and wife Kayla, and Jim and wife Linda Young; and cousins Richard Lee and wife Linda as well as their children Victoria and Trisha, and Laura Hodnett and her sons Kalen and Kris.
