Geneva Pearl Phelps

Geneva (Gennie) Pearl Langlitz-Abshier-Phelps age 90 years of age of Amarillo, TX. went to be with our Lord on July 16, 2023.

Geneva was born Jan. 9, 1933 in Lubbock, TX., she was the Daughter of  Oliver Louis Langlitz and Eva Annie Walker of Lovington, NM. who preceded her in death. Geneva, with her 6 sisters and 2 brothers, grew up in Texas and New Mexico. She married Marvin Glen (Buddy) Abshier and there were 5 children born of this union. They lived in different states in their almost 26 year marriage but mostly in and around Austin, TX. He preceded her in death in 1976. Gennie married G. (Jack) A. Phelps on Jan. 16, 1981.

While living in Beaver, OK she received her G.E.D. that she was very proud of. When she worked in the Nursing home there, she completed courses to become a certified EMT with the ambulance service for 4 years. They moved to Deming, NM for several years before moving to Amarillo, TX into the home they built. They loved to travel in the first years of their 39 year marriage. Jack also preceded her in death in 2020.

Gennie loved doing crochet, knitting, quilting, sewing and doing puzzles. She loved all the old country western songs, watching Gun Smoke and other westerns. Loved all the cats & dogs they had over the years plus all the backyard birds they fed.

Geneva was also preceded in death by Daughters-Geanie Ann Marsh, Bertha Dianne Sowder, 8  siblings-William Langlitz, Alice Sumruld. Annie Belle Rhodes, Lorene Cockrel, Estella Grant, Eva Brown, Thelma Thornhill & Jesse Langlitz, 2 Grandsons-Harvey Joseph & Darrell.  1 Great Grandson Tyler Loggan Davis. Surviving family members include Children: Sue Cox, Glen Abshier, Geneva & Sam Loggan,  Gary & Renda Phelps, Sandy Reynolds & numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchildren as well as many Nieces, Nephews & Cousins. Cremation has taken place at Angel Funeral Home of Amarillo, TX.

There will be no services at Mom’s Request. If you would like to do something in remembrance for her donate to your local Animal Shelter as they did throughout the years.
