Jerry Don Beck

April 21, 1955 — December 18, 2022

Amarillo

Jerry Don Beck, age 67 of Amarillo entered the gates of Heaven on December 18, 2022 in Amarillo.

A memorial service to honor Jerry will be held on Thursday, December 29 at 2:00 PM at Washington Avenue Christian Church, 3800 South Washington.  The Rev. Jim Shelburne will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by Volley for Veterans.  Arrangements are by Angel Funeral Home.

Jerry made his debut into this world on April, 21, 1955 to his parents Donald Gene and Wynona Faye Mahan Beck in El Paso, Texas.  He was a graduate of Tascosa High School and went immediately into the US Marine Corp serving from 1974 until 1976.   Upon completing his military service, he began a career at Pantex that would span over forty-three years.  For the first twenty five years Jerry worked as security until he became a PT, a position he held until his retirement in 2019.

On December 29, 1979 he married the beautiful Janice Gail Booth in Amarillo.  That day began a lifetime together that would last for the next 44 years.  The couple raised two sons, Russell and eighteen years later Zack would come along to complete the family.  Together they enjoyed the great outdoors.  Beginning with a tent, moving up to a pop-up and late to a full-fledged RV the family travelled and spent time in the mountains of Colorado at one of Jerry’s favorite fishing spots, Blue Lake.

In addition to his passion for fishing, Jerry could be described as an artisan.  He could fix, construct and create virtually anything. His motto was if you were going to do something you better do it right… the first time.  This was a philosophy he instilled in his children, but especially his youngest son, Zach.  Those two spent a great amount of time working together, and Jerry ensured Zach knew how to do a multitude of things and to do them properly.  He was a masterful wood worker.  He constructed a handmade bunk bed for Russell and a beautiful redwood cedar lined chest for his sister.  For a time he operated a craft booth, where his workmanship was displayed and sold to the community.  He also ventured into silver-smithing. There was very little that Jerry could not do.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Jerry is survived by his wife Janice, who together would have celebrated their forty four year anniversary on December 29 of this year; by his two sons, Russell Stowers and his spouse Carlos of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Zack Beck and his girlfriend Kassie of Amarillo; his sister Tammy Higdon of Amarillo; his brother, David Beck of Amarillo; his sisters-in law, Becky Corbin of Schulenburg, Texas and Sandra Dayson of Longmont, Colorado; his brother-in-law, Cecil Booth of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and three grandsons, Kristopher, Kaden and Noah.
