Jose Frederico "Freda" Hernandez, 62, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on October 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

The family will receive guests at Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, from 4 pm to 6 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 10 am in the funeral home's Chapel of Angels.

Freda Hernandez made her vibrant entrance into the world on November 9 and the 10th, but officially on November 11, 1961, in Clovis, New Mexico, to Napoleon and Agapita Hernandez; Freda was a lively spirit from the beginning, always dancing to the beat of her own drum, whether it was atop a coffee table or on any stage that would have her. Everything Freda did was filled with energy and warmth, from hosting holiday gatherings to planning events for family and friends. She never met a stranger and had a knack for making everyone feel welcome.

Though she did not have children of her own, Freda’s love extended to many, helping to nurture and raise countless children with kindness and care. In 1981, she met Roberto, her “Cubano,” who became her lifelong partner, sharing over 40 beautiful years together.

Freda’s passions included cooking, shopping, crafting, decorating, and cherishing time with loved ones. Her personality was truly larger than life, filled with love, laughter, and an infectious joy that will be remembered by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Napoleon and Agapita Hernandez, her brothers, Harold and Joseph Hernandez, and her sister, Eva Hernandez.

Freda is survived by six brothers, Sammy Apodaca, George Hernandez, Lawrence Hernandez, Napoleon Hernandez, Agapito Hernandez, and Domingo Reyes, as well as three sisters, Rachel Carrillo, Dorothy Hernandez, and Ruth Wasson, two Godsons, Julian Hernandez and Omilde Camacho. She was grandma Freda to two great nieces, Yariah and Jussandra Hernandez. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and Special Friends who held her dearly in their hearts. Freda’s legacy of love, laughter, and warmth will live on in each of them.
