Josephine Subia Cantu, age 78, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024, at her home in Amarillo, Texas.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, from 4 pm to 6 pm at Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur. Rosary will begin at 6 pm. Funeral Mass will take place at 10am on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, 4500 W. Hills Trail. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Born on October 14, 1945, in Big Spring, TX, to Prudencio M. Subia and Guadalupe Subia, Josephine was a devoted Catholic and a loving presence in the lives of those around her. Her kindness and unwavering faith brought comfort and joy to her family and friends. In 1963, Josephine married the love of her life, Ernesto R. Cantu. Their 61 years together were filled with deep love and cherished memories, creating a timeless love story that will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.
Josephine is survived by her children, Jackie and William Lutz of Amarillo, TX, and Joe and Kelly Cantu of Plainview, TX.
She is also cherished by her grandchildren, Sara and AJ Wasek of Austin, TX; Devin and Carlos Hernandez of Rockwall, TX; Ernest J. Lutz, and Yazmin Lopez of Amarillo, TX; Bailey Cantu of Plainview, TX; Siena and Eybar Espino of Amarillo, TX; and Joey David Jr. of Plainview, TX. Her great-grandchildren include Scarlett and August Wasek, Carlos, Josiyas, Aracelli, and Natalya Hernandez, Kaleb and Josiah Lutz, and Elijah, Adonai, and Elena Rodarte - Aliona, and Sofia Espino. Josephine is survived by three siblings, Janie Delgado of Amarillo, Tx, Prudencio Subia of Lubbock, TX, and Maria Nanez of Seattle, WA. She will also be remembered by close friends Shirley Brewington, Cheryl Kelly, Abiel Rodarte, the Lynch-Reynolds Family, Delgado family, and the Liebsch Family, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and other loved ones.
Josephine will be fondly remembered for her nurturing touch, kind words, and unwavering encouragement. Her remarkable strength and grace were evident throughout her life, and now, her radiant spirit continues to illuminate the heavens.
