On August 25th, 2023, Katrina C. Wheat, 53, of Amarillo, Texas, lost her battle with cancer and was called home to be with the family that preceded her.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Llano Cemetery, with Rev. Greg Corona of Hillside Christian Church presiding.
Katrina was born on May 13th, 1970, in Amarillo, TX. She loved dancing, playing pool, Family Feud, Deal or No Deal, diamond painting, and playing Bingo. In her younger years, she enjoyed collecting unicorn figurines. She was stubborn and could not start her morning without her coffee. During her last days, she spent her time crocheting blankets and scarves for all of her children and grandchildren to remember her by.
Her favorite color was purple, and her favorite song was “Up Town Funk You Up.” She was old-fashioned and wanted all of her grandchildren to call her Nana.
For the last four years of her life, she battled heart failure, cancer, and kidney failure. To the very end, she fought bravely through radiation, chemo treatments, and multiple stent surgeries. She remained stubborn to the very end. Katrina was loved by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Vivian; her father, Samuel; her sister, Sandy; her brother, Terrence; and her son, Brandon.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Michael Wheat. One sister, Venus Jones. Three sons: Rudy Sandoval, Christopher Leavitt, and Mikey Wheat. Three daughters: Kristina Cardwell, Krystal Leavitt, and Kristy Leavitt. Five granddaughters: Nicole, Adalyn, Paisley, Gabriella, and Mercedes. Four grandsons: David, Isahia, Stephen, and Zack. All of whom she loved dearly.
