Kay Hammons, 84, of Amarillo passed from this life on Tuesday, February 12, 2019.
A private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.
Kay was born October 1, 1934 to Bessie and Sam LeGrand in Mayfield, OK. She married Edwin (Bill) Hammons in 1956 in Pampa, TX.
She graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Woodward. She and Bill owned and operated the Elk Pharmacy in Stratford, TX from 1969-1978.
Kay was a Life Master contract bridge player, avid gardener and enjoyed working out at the gym. She loved life and had a great sense of humor. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, doing crossword puzzles, spoiling her cats, and going to garage sales.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers; and four sisters.
Kay was “Mamaw” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed and remembered with love by all her family. Her funny antics kept us all smiling.
Survivors include a son, Robert Hammons and wife Sherry of Amarillo; daughter, Darla Aufill and husband Jeff of Seabrook, TX; two grandchildren, Chera Miller and husband Daniel of Amarillo and Matthew Hammons and wife Lauren of Amarillo; and three great-grandchildren, Christian, Mason and Austin Hammons.
The family suggest memorials be made to your favorite animal charity.
