Louis E. (Pampo) Cardwell, 81, of Amarillo, died Monday, September 19, 2016.
No Services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are by Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur St.
He was born June 21, 1935, in Del Rio, Texas. He was the second child of Ernest and Irene (Cardenas) Cardwell. Louis graduated high school in 1952 from St. Anthony’s Seminary in San Antonio. Louis married Rosalinda Salazar in 1959 and they had four sons, Louis II, John, Nelson, and William. He graduated in 1962 from the University of Texas with a degree in Petroleum Engineering.
The family moved to Amarillo in 1965 where he worked at the U.S. Bureau of Mines – Helium Operations for 25 years.
Louis was a big fan of the University of Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed getting together with his family to watch these games while having a cook-out. He also enjoyed golfing, camping trips with his sons, card games with his friends, trips to Las Vegas, and helping his sons fix up houses. He was a long-time member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Irene, his son, Nelson, his grandson, Nelson Jr., and his granddaughter, Kati Chantelle Earnest.
Louis is survived by his sons, Louis II (Pam), John, and William (Maggie), a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Cardwell, Rosalinda Cardwell, all of Amarillo, his sister, Theresita Rodriguez of Austin, his brothers, Thomas Cardwell (Libby) of Del Rio, and David Cardwell (Peggy) of Wimberly, Texas, nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends, including his good friend, Norbert Pacheco, and his devoted dog, Bevo.
The family is very grateful to the wonderful team from Amarillo Hospice of the Plains, who took good and loving care of Louis in his last few weeks.
