Norman McGill, 79, of Canyon, died September 7, 2017. Services will be Saturday, September 23, at 2 p.m., at Amarillo Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4901 Cornell street, Amarillo. He is survived by his wife Kathy Neugebauer; his daughter Kathleen Michael and husband Randy of Amarillo; his son Robert McGill and wife Alina of Amarillo; stepdaughter Elizabeth Neugebauer of the home; stepson Victor Neugebauer and wife Kelley of Houston; grandson Christopher Michael and granddaughter Maisy Neugebauer.
Norm was born in Deport Texas to Violet Ham and Clyde McGill.
Norm was a 20 year veteran of the Air Force, retiring as a member of the 89th MAC At Andrews Air Force Base, where he was responsible for supervising the maintenance for Air Force 1 and 2. He saw Presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon. He spent 2 years of his service in Guam. After retiring he moved his family to be near relatives in Amarillo. He had a long sales career with Gillette, and in the freight business. He also worked with the Civil Air Patrol. He married Kathleen Kasper on December 22, 2001 . Together they both worked at Walmart until seeking a change of scenery and traveling to Rockport, Texas, and Big Bend, Texas to spend the winters away from the cold.
Norm was known for his love of all kinds of music. He played a 6 string Martin guitar since he was a teenager. Norm was an avid book reader especially enjoying science fiction and fantasy genres. Winemaking was one of the hobbies Norm enjoyed and he loved to travel and camp in his airstream trailer. One of the very best things about Norm was his dry sense of humor and talent for storytelling.
Norm was preceded in Death by his parents, a sister Kathleen Powers, brother Dale McGill.
