Orville Roger Uhrich, 83, of Amarillo, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, surrounded by his family.
The family will receive guests at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, on Monday, December 9, 2024, from 4 pm to 6 pm. Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 10 am in Schooler Funeral Home's Brentwood Chapel. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Orville was born in England, AR on August 30, 1941, the youngest of eight siblings born to the late Leonard Ray and Dorothy Hopkins Uhrich. Roger lived in Arkansas and Kansas before finally settling in Amarillo, Texas where he planted his roots.
Roger traveled extensively across the United States while working several years with Costelow, climbing and replacing light bulbs on radio towers. He enjoyed sightseeing and collecting rocks from the many different states where his work took him. Roger retired in 2011 after 30 years at the Amarillo Asarco Copper Refinery.
Roger and Sharon Gail Ivy were united in marriage and shared 44 years together building a loving home for their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, foster children, and chosen children. The family attended Tascosa Road Fellowship church for several years. Roger enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, NASCAR, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. He was a man of many talents starting in his younger years with auto body repair. He had the ability to build and repair anything around the home including vehicles. Later in life, Roger earned his GED and an associate’s degree.
Roger was known for his wit and wisdom, often speaking his mind with a sharp sense of humor. He was very proud of his family and would do anything in the world for them.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Gail Uhrich, siblings, Margaret Thompson, Lawrence Uhrich, Dorothy Smith, and Clara Rial.
Roger was a caring and loving son, brother, husband, father, pop, poppa, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed and remain in the hearts of family and friends forever.
He is survived by his children Theresa (Eloy) Ortiz, Charlotte (Shane) Heberling, Michele (David) Miller, Marcus (Dani) Uhrich, Chaceon and Traceon Murphy, their chosen sons, Tyler and Cody Wedell, and Jordan Stamps. Brothers Norman (Virgie Ann) Uhrich, Ray (Gail) Uhrich, and sister Catherine Roberts. Grandchildren David Ostrander, Dylan (Lydia) Heberling, Sierra Gallegos, Sophia Uhrich, and Zayvien Sanchez. Great-grandchildren Jacqualyn, Savannah, Aubree, Bryn’Lee, and Kay’Lynn Ostrander. Hadlee and Wesley Heberling, and Mackenzie Barfoot , great-great grandson Evyn Ostrander, and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Roger’s Gentiva Hospice team for their care over the past several months, especially nurse Evelyn Duarte, bath assistant Kathy Jackson, and many other hospice caregivers. We are especially thankful for the love and support given by a family friend, Rebecca Walters, who developed a strong bond with Roger. He truly enjoyed her company, and we are forever grateful for her love and compassion.
The family would also like to thank Jessica Hernandez of Comfort and Love Private Care Home. We are forever grateful for the love and care that she and other caregivers provided for Roger while living in her home.
