Raymond "Ray" William Johnson, Jr.

February 8, 1964 — April 6, 2022

Raymond “Ray” William Johnson Jr, 58, of Amarillo passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on April 6, 2022.

A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at a later date. If you would like to send an arrangement or offer condolences to the family in person, please contact Jared Johnson for the family's home address.

Ray was born on February 8, 1964 in San Bernadino, California to Raymond William Johnson Sr and Rebecca Martinez. He attended Hereford High School in his younger years. He would obtain his electrician license and would work as a contractor for the Phillips 66 Plant in Borger, Texas for most of his life.

Ray enjoyed many things in life, but none more than being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He had a knack for landscaping and gardening. He tended his yard and flower beds almost religiously and was quoted as “having the nicest yard on the block” by many of his neighbors. Ray enjoyed going to the park every day and would often take his grandkids to feed “his ducks”. When they weren’t feeding ducks, Ray could be found cheering on his grandkids at any and all of their sporting events. Didn’t matter the sport, Ray was there.

Ray possessed a talent for knowing how to fix just about anything. He was an amazing handyman and he instilled this knowledge into all of his children so that when the time came, they too would know how to fix just about any issue that was presented to them. During his time of taking care of his yard or fixing whatever issue was in front of him, he enjoyed listening to some of his “oldies” music. Even in the few moments of down time he actually had, Ray found great pleasure in music.

Ray will be missed by all of his family and many dear friends. His witty humor and ability to make any and everyone around him laugh and smile with a simple joke or his well-known Woody Woodpecker laugh that will live on in anyone blessed to know him.

Ray was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Sr; brother, Richard Bacon: and very dear friend, Tony Gonzalez.

Those left to cherish his memories are his mother Rebecca; stepmother, Cindy Johnson; siblings, Tina Rios, Trixie Stevenson (Ray), Jennie Flores (Juan), Mary Madrigal, Jeremy Johnson, Jaime Johnson, Joey Martinez, and Paul Rodriguez (Monica); his three children from his first marriage, Joshua Johnson (Heather), Joseph Johnson, Jared Johnson (Kimberly); his two children from his second marriage, Raymond William III and Christiana Roberts (Blake). Ray also leaves behind his beloved nine grandchildren and one on the way, as well as many more loving family and amazing friends.
