Reyes "Rey" Maldonado Jr., 57, died Friday, Aug. 7, 2009.
Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at 910 Ave. N N.W. in Childress. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Sunday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Memphis. Arrangements are by Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur St., in Amarillo.
Mr. Reyes was born Dec. 4, 1951, in Memphis. He attended Edinburg High School in Edinburg. He married Sofia Garza on Jan. 21, 1970, in Edinburg.
Rey was a very unselfish person who loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. Being an avid George Strait and Dallas Cowboys fan, he took part in the historical George Strait event at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium on June 6, 2009. He managed Farmers Co-Op Gin for a number of years before pursuing a truck driving career. He enjoyed watching Westerns and comedies, as well as listening to music. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and his memories will forever be cherished.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Roy Maldonado and Roman Rene Maldonado; a brother, Rene Maldonado; and his father Reyes "Rey" Maldonado Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Sofia Maldonado; two daughters, Dora Lomax of Childress and Sammantha Maldonado of Donna; a son, Reyes "Cubby" Maldonado III of Memphis; eight sisters, Delia Morgan, Frances Maddox, Yolanda Maldonado and Velia Reyes, all of Claude, Gloria Vick of Franklin, Va., Ofelia Montoya and Sylvia Sommers, both of Memphis, and Aurora Rodriquez of Wellington; three brothers, Rogelio "Roy" Maldonado, Ramiro Maldonado and Raul Maldonado, all of Memphis; his mother, Ignacia Maldonado of Memphis; and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be to Roman Maldonado Athletic Scholarship Fund, Memphis State Bank, 621 W. Noel St., Memphis, TX 79245
