Roy was born May 15, 1943 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Joe and Mary Young. Roy was the eighth of nine children and was raised on the family farm at Hope, NM.Roy graduated from Cloudcroft high School in May of 1961 and enlisted in the United States Air force in October of the same year. He proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1969.Roy began his career with Southwestern Bell in 1972 in Lubbock and then transferred to Amarillo where he remained until his retirement. After his retirement from Bell, Roy owned and operated Romar, a telephone repair, and wiring company until the time of his death.Roy was a member of Comanche Trail Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon.He loved the Lord, his family, and his Church family. He was a quiet man, an unpretentious servant, and was involved in many areas of the Church.He was a member of the board of the Children’s Emergency Home of Amarillo.Roy married his soul mate and the love of his life, Mary Vaughan Driggers on February 6, 1982. They enjoyed 29 years of Wedded Bliss.He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary Young; sisters, Lucille Cole and Shirley Young; one nephew Tim Young.Roy is survived by his wife, Mary, his sons Ray and wife Liz, Rick and wife, Kristy, and Joe all of Amarillo; his daughter Haley of the home; his eleven grandchildren; He is also survived by his brothers, Don Young and wife Katie of Hope, NM, Tom Young and wife Barbara of Ruidoso, NM, Dale Young and wife Barbara of Amarillo; his sisters, Wilma Lane and husband Wesley of Cloudcroft, NM Carolyn Hawkins and husband Jim of Vancover British Columbia, Canada , and Patsy Cochran and husband Alan of Fayetteville, ARK; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
