Thomas Lee “PaPa” Hadaway 79 of Amarillo Texas passed away 8/22/10. Graveside services will be Wed. August 25th at 9:00 a.m. at Llano East Cemetery with Pastor Ken Haney officiating. Arrangements are by Angel Funeral Home 2209 S. Arthur Amarillo, Texas. Thomas was born August 8, 1931 in Chillicothe, Texas to Ira Lee and Olle Garrett Hadaway. He was raised and educated in Lubbock Texas. Thomas joined the U.S. Army in Oct. of 1950 and served in the Korean War as a sergeant and provided entertainment throughout Europe under the name the Grand Old Opry. While serving his tour of duty he met and married Dorothy Anderman in 1953. On Oct. 9 1953 he was honorably discharged and returned to Lubbock Texas and began his career as a scale calibrator for Toledo scale. Toledo scale transferred him to Amarillo where he became the plant manager for Star Paper Tube retiring in 1995. He lovingly devoted the rest of his life to caring for his family and especially his grandchildren and playing his beloved guitar “Girtie”. He was preceded in death by his wife Rose M. Hadaway; a step daughter Pamela Jones Smith; parents; and 3 brothers Joe Hadaway, Preston Hadaway and Hershel Hadaway. He is survived by children Carol Ortiz and husband Robert of AZ, Patty Mondragon of Amarillo, Jacqueline Hadaway of Amarillo, Amanda Young of Amarillo, Janet Warren and husband Mark of Amarillo, Randy Cogdill of Amarillo; sister Nona Gregg of Leveland Texas; brothers Cecil Hadaway of Odessa Texas, Ira Lee Hadaway of Carbon Texas, and Coy Hadaway of Gainesville Texas; 3 half sisters Joan, Shelby, Debbie; 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
