Thurman Ray Sain, 89, of Amarillo, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 in Amarillo.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, August 1, 2016 at the Jubilee Apostolic Church, 5804 Erik Ave, Amarillo with Pastor Nathan Carrington officiating. Arrangements are by Angel Funeral Home, 2209 S. Arthur St.
Thurman was born on December 17, 1926 to Emmett and Martha Sain in Alma, Oklahoma. Mr. Sain was a veteran of the United States Army and the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He retired from Bell Helicopter in 1983. Thurman enjoyed fishing, baseball and his riding lawn mower. Most importantly, he loved his family. Thurman was a member of the Jubilee Apostolic Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Wanda Leona Sain; two sons, Dennis Sain and Randy Whitaker; one sister, Melva Louise Guillory; one brother, Bennie Sain; and two grandchildren; Johnny ‘Bo’ Sain and Marsha Ann Sain.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Sain; three sons, Johnny Sain of Amarillo, Roger Whitaker and wife Sherri of Ft. Worth, and Rodney Whitaker and wife Stephanie of Surprise, AZ; two sisters, Ella Phene Sain of Amarillo and Margaret Brock and husband Jimmy of Blairsville, GA; one brother, Donnie Sain and wife Cathy of California; sixteen grandchildren, Justin Sain, Shelly Rossy and husband Jesus, Christy Howell and husband Brian, Misty Woodard and husband John, Angie Tankersley and husband Scott, Troy Whitaker, Michelle Whitaker, Chad Chambliss, Chelsea Whitaker, Lindsey Benavente, Ross Whitaker, Sara Beth Whitaker, LaShae Whitaker, Nathan Whitaker, Victoria Dell and Maranda Henderson; twenty-two great grandchildren, Jesus Rossy II, Marcos Rossy, Matthew Rossy, Tyler Howell, Caitlyn Howell, Trent Tankersley, Tori Tandersley, Tiara Tankersley, Avery Woodard, Austin Woodard, Shyloe Woodard, Troy Whitaker, Gavin Whitaker, Haven Andrews, Rylin Andrews, Alexa Benavente, Leah Benavente, Katie Brazwell, Lilliana Whitaker, Andrew Alexander, Ian Dell and Eli Del; and three great great grandchildren, Blossom, Winter Eve Tankersley, and Baer Howell.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4:00-5:00 PM.
