Zachary Douglas Edwards

June 17, 1974 — July 26, 2011

Zachary Douglas Edwards, age 37, of Amarillo, TX. passed away peacefully at home on July 26,2011 after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. Zac loved life and fought valiantly until the end.

There will be a private family memorial service held at a later date.

Zachary was born on June 17, 1974 in Memphis, TN. to Richard H. and Donna B. Edwards.

Zac moved to Amarillo when he was 2 years old. He attended Amarillo Christian School and Western Plateau before moving to Abilene, TX in 1985. There he attended Jefferson Middle School and Cooper High School.

He was baptized when he was 13 years old in Searcy, AR. where Mike Cope served as minister at the University Church of Christ.

Zac was a strong, tenacious man who overcame many obstacles in life. Even in the midst of trials and heartache, he maintained a positive attitude and encouraged everyone around him displaying great strength and courage. His love and loyalty to family and friends never wavered. Zac always voiced disdain for injustice and proudly fought against it while standing up for the underdog. His sister, Misty, was his best friend and the one he always turned to in times of triumph and trial. She remained loyal and faithful to him until the end.

While his family celebrates his going home and freedom from earthly bondage, it is with heavy hearts, as his time on earth was so short. There will be an empty place at future family gatherings.
Zac was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, J.T. Kerr, his paternal grandparents G.S. and Marjorie Edwards, and uncle Gerald Brooks. Zac is survived by his father, Rick Edwards of Amarillo, mother Donna Kerr of Abilene, sisters Misty Edwards of Amarillo, Bridgette Smith of Arkansas, brother Kevin Cook of Arkansas, step mother Annette
Edwards of Arkansas. Uncles Randy Edwards and wife Lucy of Florida, Jim Edwards of Austin, TX, aunt Joy Olree and husband Harry of Searcy, AR. Zac is also survived by his grandmother, Martha Kerr of Abilene, aunt Rhonda Brooks of Abilene. Cousins include Laura of Austin, TX, Donna, Debra, Keith, Karla, Kenny, and Brock all of Arkansas, Christal Ferris and husband Adam and children Hendrix and Roxie of California, and Jerron and Jordan Brooks of Abilene. Nieces Dakota and Arizona Gilbreath of Amarillo, TX.

A special thanks goes to our church family for all the prayers and support during this difficult time and also to the hospice nurses who took great care of him.
A very special thank you goes to his friend and brother Kevin who left his job in Arkansas and moved in with Zac these last few months and cared for his every need and provided him with loving companionship. You are truly an angel sent from heaven and we love you!

Rest in Peace Zac we will truly miss you.
